Deze industri\u2030le demonstratie-brandstofcel met een protonenmembraan (PEM) zet waterstof om in elektriciteit en draait al weken stabiel. De brandstofcel heeft gedurende 800 uren meer dan 500 MWh opgewekt, wat neerkomt op het stroomverbruik van 1.370 gezinnen. De installatie die waterstof omzet in elektriciteit, kan bestempeld worden als een mini-elektriciteitscentrale.<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Schone elektriciteit<\/strong><br \/>\nDe brandstofcel vergroot eveneens de energie-effici\u2030ntie van SolVin&#8217;s zoutelektrolyse. Brandstofcellen zetten de chemische energie van waterstof om in schone elektriciteit via een elektrochemische reactie met zuurstof. Een PEM-brandstofcel bestaat uit een groot aantal assemblages van protonenmembranen en een katalysator.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nResultaat alleen elektriciteit en water<\/strong><br \/>\nBrandstofcellen worden steeds meer als een belangrijke nieuwe energietechnologie beschouwd voor tal van toepassingen zoals autobussen, auto\u2019s, vaartuigen, heftrucks, warmtekrachtkoppelingen en stroomaggregaten. Brandstofcellen aangedreven door waterstof produceren alleen elektriciteit en water. De internationale koploper is vandaag Japan. Daar wordt zowel door de overheid als door autobouwers zoals Toyota en Honda zwaar ge\u2039nvesteerd in de brandstofceltechnologie.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nBelgisch-Nederlandse samenwerking<\/strong><br \/>\nDeze technologische sprong werd gerealiseerd in samenwerking met WaterstofNet, dat het project Waterstofregio Vlaanderen &#8211; Zuid-Nederland co\u201drdineert.
